Staff Pick - Scourged

Need a suggestion for something to read or watch from the library this weekend? Maybe you'd like to check out an ebook or audiobook? Try some of our Staff Picks, to find what some of the other people in our parish are enjoying.

We know that not every staff pick will appeal to every patron, but not to worry! If you need help selecting something, we have online tools like Book Browse and our Online Catalog, or you can ask one of our friendly staff members to help search for you.

Scourged by Kevin Hearne

Satisfying end to a good urban fantasy series. We have the other books and short stories in print, audiobook, ebook, and digital audiobook. I listened to the audio for this, read by the masterful Luke Daniels, who has been the narrator for the entire series. Daniels is in terns exciting and hilarious, and by now I wonder if the Hearne writes some of this books with the narrator in mind.

With the Iron Druid Chronicles, we have a 2000 year-old Druid, Atticus, who is on the run from the gods. By the time we get to this last book, he's got to stand and face his reckoning, even if it's Ragnarok itself. We get plenty of scenes with Owen, Granuaile, and the very funny Irish wolfhound Oberon. If you're at all a dog lover, Oberon might end up being your favorite character in the entire series.

This book is for those who love reading adventure, enjoy mythology and world religions, love dogs, and who don't mind the occasional bout of dude humor beside their Shakespeare references.

If Scourged interests you, feel free to request or check it out. We'll be back next Thursday with a different Staff Pick.
