Patron Digital File Storage And @beau.org Library Email Accounts To Be Discontinued On April 30, 2024

In a strategic effort to improve our service sustainability, the Beauregard Parish Library (BPL) is discontinuing select information technology (IT) services on April 30, 2024. Our patron computer labs, which previously ran a Linux operating system, are migrating to a ChromeOS Flex operating system. The shift is aimed at modernizing our software and hardware management solutions. As part of this change, some services & resources that BPL previously provided to patrons with a username / password will be changing after April 30, 2024.

What Is Changing?

Digital File Storage — If you have files saved on our servers, they will no longer be accessible after April 30, 2024. To retain your data, please visit one of our library branches, and transfer your files to either an external storage device (like a USB flash drive, external hard drive, or memory card) or a cloud (online) file storage service (such as Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, iCloud, Dropbox, and MEGA). USB flash drives are available for purchase at the library.

Email — If you have a library email address, example: yourlibraryusername@beau.org, access to that email account and its contents will end on April 30, 2024. Before this date, you will need to create or use a new email account, inform your contacts of the change, and transfer your library emails to the new email account. We will provide written instructions for this process and schedule workshops for in-person assistance. Don’t forget to update your email address with any connected financial institutions or billing services, and any accounts where your @beau.org library email address is your recovery or backup email address.

How Can We Support You Through This Change?

Written instructions — You can find clear instructions at any BPL branch or at library.beau.org/help or:

  1. Full Version With Both Pages:

These straightforward guides will help you set up a new email account with a free email service and show you how to transfer emails from your old @beau.org library email account to the new one. Additionally, there are instructions on how to move any personal files you have saved on our server (if any) to an external storage device or to a common cloud file storage service.

**Numerous email providers and cloud file storage options (both free and paid) exist. While our instructions cover a commonly used, free option, feel free to explore alternatives that suit your preferences and personal needs.

In-person workshops — If you feel you require a little more one-on-one guidance through this process, we’ll offer multiple chances to attend an in-person clinic with our staff. Watch our online Calendar Of Events for classes on February 17, March 16, and April 20, 2024, and register to attend the one that best fits your schedule.

Over 90 days notice — We understand change can be challenging. Therefore, we’re providing over 90 days notice to ensure a smooth transition.

PLEASE NOTE that computer lab and Wi-Fi access will continue to be available at all BPL locations for patrons who have completed our Electronic Services Agreement. Internet access, printing, and copying services remain available in the new environment.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this transition. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team.

Thank you for being a valued patron of the BPL community!
