Naked In Death by J. D. Robb (Nora Roberts)

Looking for something romantic to read? How about a nice gritty police procedural? Do you like futuristic SciFi? How about all three in one novel? How about if they were written by noted and best-selling romance writer Nora Roberts?

Well, that's exactly what Naked In Death is. Eve Dallas is your average Homicide Detective in the year 2058. Recovering from having to shoot a father who had just killed his daughter, instead of undergoing the normal testing before being returned to duty, she's called in to duty anyway to investigate the death of a senator's granddaughter. The unusual factor in the murder is that it was done with an antique gun, something that has been outlawed and should only be available to licensed collectors.

In the course of investigation, Eve meets Roarke, the richest man on Earth, who is also a licensed gun collector, and believed to be involved in numerous shady dealings. And as usual for these kinds of stories, she ends up sleeping with him, even if he's a suspect (the sex is of the "fade to black" kind).

This is a great book for those who enjoy seeing different ideas from different genres cross-pollinating. Nora Roberts is known for her deft handling of Happy Ever After romances, and her use of a pseudonym allowed her to expand into other areas without the baggage. Still, she succeeded very well, as shown by the 45 sequel novels, as well as 11 short stories. If you like this first one, there's plenty more to enjoy!

If Naked In Death interests you, feel free to request or check it out. We'll be back next Thursday with a different Staff Pick.
