Mango Monday: Polish

For this week's Mango Monday we will present Polish, a spoken as a first language by an estimated 40 million people worldwide.

Poland and the Polish language have a very rich history, which includes prime importance in academic studies and eastern European diplomacy.

The influence of Polish culture can be witnessed in many corners of the United States, as a great number of Americans can say that they have at least a little Polish heritage. Whether you plan on using your Polish language skills to connect with your roots, or to explore charming old-world villages and magnificent gothic castles and cathedrals, it's sure to help you discover a whole new world of experiences!

Polish, like English, is one of the Indo-European languages. It is part of the smaller Slavic language group that includes Czech and Russian. Unlike Russian, however, it is written with the Latin alphabet we know and are using for this article. It does have a few sounds English doesn't, but don't let that stop you from giving it a try!

All conversational languages give you different language skills and situations to practice (Making Friends, Shopping, etc). Here is the first lesson about names and introductions you can learn from Chapter 3: What's your name?.

Polish is available through both Mango Languages and Pronunciator. Each language product has different interfaces, and some will work better for you depending on what you want to get out of your language experience. Don't forget to take advantage of each product's mobile apps for language learning on the go!

Next Monday we will be back with a new language you can teach yourself with resources from your library.
