Find It Fridays

This week we will cover how to find the nonfiction books at BPL. If you missed last week’s Find It Friday where we covered finding the Adult Fiction materials, you should still be able to scroll down and read it!

Nonfiction Books: Nonfiction books are any materials based on facts, real events, and real people. In this section you will find books on crafting, religion, cooking, biographies, and history!

At BPL the call numbers for nonfiction books start with two different letter codes: Adult nonfiction (ANF) and Junior nonfiction (JNF). Junior nonfiction books are great for children or patrons of all ages who are looking to gain basic information and facts on a subject matter. Nonfiction books are unique because they are arranged by call numbers according to the Dewey Decimal System. For example: 100s- Philosophy & Psychology, 700s- The Arts, 900s, Geography & History. For a complete listing of Dewey numbers click on this link.

Within the nonfiction section of the library the books are in numerical order with the ANF and JNF books combined. Say that you needed to find a book on Thomas Jefferson and the catalog gives you this call number: JNF 973.46 JON THO - Stacks (Available). The JNF tells you the book is junior nonfiction and the 900 number tells you it is in the History section. Or, you want to find a healthy eating cookbook and you find this call number: N-ANF 641.5635 LOW - Stacks (Available). The ANF tells you it is an Adult nonfiction book, located in the 600 section.

Take some time and find a great nonfiction book to take home over the holidays!
