Email and Data Transfer Clinic

Space is limited! Please sign up for this monthly clinic to have our staff help you transfer all your data and files from our servers and set up new emails before these services are discontinued on April 30, 2024.

Patron Digital File Storage & @beau.org Email Accounts to be Discontinued on 4/30/24

In a strategic effort to improve our service sustainability, BPL is discontinuing select information technology (IT) services on April 30, 2024. Our patron computer labs, which previously ran a Linux environment, are migrating to a ChromeOS environment. The shift is aimed at modernizing our software and hardware management solutions.  As part of this change, some of the services & resources that BPL previously provided to patrons with a username / password will be changing after April 30, 2024.

What’s Changing?

• • Digital File Storage – If you have files saved on our servers, they will no longer be accessible after April 30, 2024. To retain your data, please visit the Library and transfer your files to either a USB flash drive or a cloud storage platform (such as Google Drive or Dropbox). USB drives are available for purchase at the Library.
  • Email – If you have an email address ending in @beau.org, access to that account and its contents will end on April 30, 2024. Before this date, you will need to create a new email account, inform your contacts of the change, and transfer your inbox messages to the new account. We will provide written instructions for this process and schedule workshops for in-person assistance. Don’t forget to update your email address with any connected financial institutions or billing services, and any accounts where your @beau.org address is your recovery or backup address.

How Can We Support You Through This Change?

• • • Written instructions** – You can find clear instructions at any BPL branch or here. These straightforward guides will help you set up a new email account with a free email service and show you how to transfer messages from your old @beau.org account to the new one. Additionally, there are instructions on how to move any personal files you have saved on our server (if any) to a USB drive or to a common cloud storage solution.

**Numerous email providers and cloud storage options (both free and paid) exist. While our instructions cover a commonly used, free option, feel free to explore alternatives that suit your preferences and personal needs.

• • • In-person workshops – If you feel you need a little more one-on-one guidance through this process, we’ll offer multiple chances to attend an in-person clinic with our staff. Watch our online Calendar of Events for classes on Feb. 17, Mar. 16, and Apr. 20 and register to attend the one that best fits your schedule.
    • Over 90 days notice – We understand change can be challenging. Therefore, we’re providing over 90 days notice to ensure a smooth transition.
