My wife, Shirley E Averett of 38 years, and I have five children, fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Shirley also served 3 years in the Air Force with the 3rd weather squadron at Offutt AFB, Nebraska. After I left Vigor High School in 1958, I worked for Delchamps until January of 1959, at which time I enlisted in the US Air Force. My basic training was 14 weeks at Lackland AFB, Texas. Upon completion of that training I was assigned to March AFB, Moreno Valley, California. This assignment was to last some 6 1/2 years. In November of 1965, I was sent to Cannon AFB, Clovis, New Mexico for training for Southeast Asia. I was assigned to the "Elite" Air Forces 554th Redhorse squadron (rapid, expeditionary, deployable, heavy construction engineering squadron). We trained for some 7 1/2 weeks and deployed to Phan Rang Air Base, South Vietnam. After a year of hard work, constructing an air base I returned to the US, and left the air force in 1967. That year began a 32-year career of heavy commercial truck driving, ending in 1997 with a massive heart attack and open-heart surgery. I am still doing civil engineering work with the city of Mobile, Alabama. I am happy to assist in the planning of the 2003 class reunion. I am currently also vice president of US Air Force's Elite Redhorse association. |

Kathy Lucille (Long)
742 Blackwood Drive San Diego, CA 92154 619-690-4982 Spouse: Dave M. Long |
After
high school, I spent a year at Auburn University and I worked at Brookley
Field for a year. I went to Pensacola one weekend in 1960 with a
girlfriend and met, on a blind date, the person who was to be my husband,
Dave, for 42 plus years. He was in the Navy and our first home was in San
Diego, CA. Dave was a photographer in the Navy and still is an excellent
photographer. He is in demand at many functions and events. He is teaching
me to help him. In 1961, our daughter, Susan, was born in San Diego.
In 1963, we moved across country courtesy of the U.S. Navy to Patuxent
River, MD, south of Washington, D.C. Our son, John, was born in MD. I had
never seen so much snow! It was beautiful and it was dirty, so we were
happy to return to the West Coast. In 1964, the Navy returned us to Los
Angeles where Dave attended the cinema school at USC for a year. In 1965,
we returned to San Diego for the remainder of Dave’s time in the Navy.
San Diego became “home”. An interesting thing happened while we were in
Los Angeles. When we were all packed up to leave Los Angeles, the
Watts riots started and we were drawn into the area where nothing was moving
and armed police were all over the place. We were finally able to get a
moving company to come into the area, pack us out, and take our household
goods to San Diego. We lived in Chula Vista, south of San Diego, until
1967 when we moved into our home south of Chula Vista in the city of San
Diego. It sounds confusing but that is what it is. I went to work for the
Navy and spent many years working for them. Dave retired in 1975 and, after
receiving his degree in Recreation from the University of California San
Diego, he went to work for the Navy as a civilian. He retired in 1996 and
I retired in 2002. The last day of March 2002 was my last day at work.
We have been docents at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista for
many years and lead tours on Wednesday mornings.
Our children are both in the Air Force. Our daughter is stationed in North Dakota and our son and his family are in Montana. Our son has since retired and they plan on remaining in Montana. They have spent time in Europe, England, and Okinawa, collectively. We developed a love of travel when our son was stationed in Berlin in the early 80s and visited more than once. Our grandson was born in Berlin. It is one of our very favorite cities to visit. Our daughter was stationed near Ramstein AFB for several years and we have ties there, also. We continue to visit Europe as often as possible. My last five years with the Navy was working in the International Training Office at Fleet Training Center, Naval Station, San Diego. We had international military students from all over the world attending the Navy schoolhouses. We were there to help them administratively. I loved my job but it was interfering with my personal life so I retired. My husband and I joined the Order of the Eastern Star in 1975 and are actively engaged in enjoying all the lovely people worldwide that we meet. I am currently the Grand Representative of Puerto Rico in California and visited Puerto Rico over Memorial Day weekend 2002 when they had their jurisdiction convention. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the people of Puerto Rico and people from all over the United States who were attending. I am looking forward to returning with Dave. He has never been to Puerto Rico. There is a Navy base there and we will visit there, also. This year, Dave is Grand Treasurer of CA so we will be traveling all over the state, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Minnesota, Iowa, and I don’t know where else. For now, Nov 02 through Oct 03 will be very busy for both of us and I won’t be able to attend the reunion. I am sorry to say that because I love my husband’s high school reunions in Iowa. We were both anticipating the reunion in AL. A lot has happened to all of us in the last 45 years. Our grandson graduated from high school in June 2002 and our granddaughter will graduate in June 2003. We visit my brother who lives in Grand Bay once in a while. Dave likes to go during Mardi Gras. About three years ago was the first time he had been to Mardi Gras. I hope everyone who attends the reunion will have a wonderful time. I know Johnny has been working hard and long to make it a success. Mobile has changed so much since we were in school. Those were the good old days!! |
Beach, Betty Grace 4593 Stinnaker Way Orange Beach, AL 36561 251-974-5211 |
I left Vigor at the end of my Junior year, moving to Greenville, South Carolina. I married Bob Grace from Whistler, Al. We were married for 37 good years before he passed away in 1994. We have four wonderful children who now live in Seattle/Atlanta, Dallas, TX, Jackson, MS and Gilbertown, AL. I have 10 grandchildren and am about to become a great-grandmother for the first time in October. They all live away from me but do visit when school schedules permit. I worked for Bellsouth for 35 years beginning as an Operator in Mobile, AL in 1962, moving to Marietta, GA for 8 years in 1965 (Bob worked for Lockheed Georgia) and to Jackson, MS (Bob worked for General Motors) in 1973 where I worked until I retired to Orange Beach, AL Jan. 1997. I held various positions with Bellsouth beginning with Operator and ending as Analyst on GM's Area Staff. It was a wonderful career and treated me well educationally and financially so I can enjoy my retirement. While in Jackson I was very active with the Mississippi Special Olympics at the state and local level. I worked with the State Games as well attended the International Special Olympics . This was a very learning experience. I usually handled developmental sports and worked with athletes who were not able to compete in the regular competitive sports . It was a lot of fun. I now dance, play cards, bowl, cook, read, travel (and of course - the beach) and anything else that seems like fun. I have a special friend Dennis Massie whom I have dated for the past 18 months. He will be coming to the reunion with me. Life is good! I'm very glad the class decided to let those who had to leave the school or the area because of life changes to attend the reunion. I have kept in touch with Ruby Parnell Webb over the years as she was my best friend during school (and is also a member of my family by marriage). I remember a lot of the names from school and am looking forward to seeing everyone. |

After graduation from Vigor, I attended the University of Alabama for one year, then entered the United States Air Force to learn how to fly. I was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1961 and started out on a 31 year career that has taken me around the world. During my first assignment in New York I met and married my sweet "Yankee" wife, Lorraine. We're still together and have produce three beautiful children and two super grandkids. My assignments in the AF were great and included stops in New York, Texas, Nebraska, California, Alabama, Florida, Colorado, and back to Texas. I spent two tours of duty in Vietnam flying over two hundred combat missions in KC-135's and AC-130's. I was fortunate enough to survive the war and went on to an interesting AF career in Intelligence and Communications. I retired in 1991 at the rank of Colonel. I have visited almost fifty foreign countries and my family and I have lived in England and Korea. Along the way I graduated from the University of Nebraska with a BS in History and a Master's of Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma, I currently live in San Antonio, TX. where I'm semi-retired. I substitute teach at the elementary level (for beer money) and try to keep up with my hobbies of oil painting, wood working, reading and golf. Life is good in Texas. |

After graduation, I went to Miss. So. with Ed Kotis. Kotis' dad won a 1958 T-Bird at Ladd Stadium and to "school" we went... and went... and went. Like Ed, I do believe our minds were on something other than homework. We didn't accomplish a great deal. Back to Mobile- paper mill- shipyard- construction- etc. Then off to Univ. of Ala. Grad B.S. in math. Became engineer in Monroe, La. This lasted for a while and it was in this capacity that I found my niche. For the next 35 years, it was Assn. Mgt. labor relations- apprentice training- political action- lobbing- president of CECA Service Corp, which administered the statewide workers comp insurance for the construction industry. Retired in 2000. Spend the majority of my time archery hunting, also fishing and playing golf. The rest of the time is spent with my wife of 22 years, Dianne, at our lake house. We have one daughter and two beautiful granddaughters that spend about as much time at the lake as we do. My two sons and their mother, Anne, currently reside in Georgia. |

After graduation from Vigor, I attended Mississippi State University on a full scholarship, and graduated with a B.S. in History and English in 1962. I have been married to James Denson (Vigor, class of 56) for 43 years and we have a son (and daughter-in-law) and daughter (and son-in-law, and 2 granddaughters.) I’ve had 3 distinct careers since graduation. I was a full-time, stay-at-home wife and mother until our younger child started school. I was very happy and fulfilled and would have been content forever in that career, but children have a nasty habit of growing up. Next I taught remedial reading part-time in a federally funded program. That was an excellent choice for me as long as our children were in school, but I always knew it wasn’t what I wanted to do the rest of my life. Finally, nineteen years ago, I turned to one of the great loves of my life---money—and chose the accounting field. I currently have the best job in the world. I am the Financial Manager of a mid-size church. I get to spend a million dollars each year of someone else’s money, and I do it in a 3-day workweek. I have no plans to retire! I’m still an avid reader, averaging several books a week, I cross-stitch and work word games, and am writing a family history at the request of my children. I also teach an Adult couples Sunday School Class. James and I share a love of, and interest in, antiques, and we own a booth in an antique mall. Last year I discovered antiques and collectibles on EBay, and life may never be the same. Please don’t bid against mississippistate62! |

I am married to Bob Bruce. We have one son and he and his family live nearby. Bob and I have spent the last 12 years living in the Caribbean, St Thomas VI. We bought a sailboat in 1991 in St Petersburg FL and sailed to St Thomas. We visited a good many islands going as far south as Guadeloupe. We lived onboard for seven years then moved ashore after we both started to work. We sold the boat and got two free Rottweilers (nothing stays free) and three calico cats. We moved back to Atlanta in January 2003. It is great to be back, we had a great time going to new places and making new friends at each stop. Now we look forward to getting in touch with friends and family. |

After graduation I went to Auburn the following school year. Not being satisfied with my success in my first year of college, the next year I attended Mississippi Southern College. At the end of my second year of college I was accepted for pilots training in the US Air Force. Just a few weeks before I was to leave for the new adventure, our federal government put a hold on accepting any new trainees. I worked a few odd jobs in the Mobile area, and in April of 1962 I was hired by Southern Bell Telephone Company. Within months, I was drafted, and in October I started basic training with the US Army. During the next 22 months, Uncle Sam paid my expenses to visit five foreign countries. While stationed in Turkey, I had the privilege of getting to visit the Holy Lands. When discharged from the Army, I returned to my job at Southern Bell. While working for the telephone company, they changed names twice; from Southern Bell to South Central Bell to Bell South. In May of 1967 I married Wanda Hough, a 1963 graduate of Satsuma High School. Our only child, a son, Lee was born in October of 1968. Lee now has two children (both boys); Devin (13) and Jackson (4 months). This past Spring I retired from Bell South with forty (40) years service. In May, Wanda and I celebrated our thirty-fifth (35th) anniversary. Wanda and I are enjoying retirement by traveling and catching up on all the "honey-dos". I don't have "normal" hobbies like a lot of guys. I don't do much hunting or fishing but I do enjoy studying about US geography and history through our travels and by studying maps. We also enjoy bird watching. (Not the serious, binocular carrying, tromping through the woods kind- but supplying 6 regular bird feeders and 8 hummingbird feeders.) I am looking forward to seeing all our classmates and renewing some friendships. |

Gaddy, Earl | "My father
was married twice in his lifetime. He was married once in the early 1960's to a
woman named Joy Fayard. They were married approximately six months and divorced.
No children. He married my Mother, Linda Burnett sometime between 1964 and 1966.
They were married for 12 years and had my brother Kenneth (born 1971) and
daughter Michelle (born 1973). My Dad was a police officer for the cities of
Satsuma and Prichard, Alabama, while in college. My Dad graduated from
both William Carey College and Montevallo College. My father taught school at
Semmes Middle School and Baker High School for many years before accepting a job
offer with the Albert P. Brewer Center in Mobile, Alabama. He retired from the
State, yet he returned to work the next year. He told me that he was not used to
a life not working. Ha! In 1997, a terrible tornado destroyed my father's
lifelong home in Saraland, Alabama. He survived and lived to tell the story.
Sadly, in 2001, my Dad suffered two massive strokes that left him in a nursing
home and paralyzed. He suffered a third stroke on 2006. Over the years it was
difficult as I watched my "hero"...slowly fade away... I find comfort in knowing
that my Dad found the Lord as his Saviour, a mere 3 weeks before his death.
Thank you for your kind words as it means so much to his children during this
time of loss." -Michelle & Kenneth Gaddy Earl died on 1/17/2006 |

Golson, Barbara Ann (Wootton) | I did not graduate with Vigor High class of '58 but you were my classmates for 3 years. I married my husband, Ralph E. Wootton, a sailor boy, in August '57. We are still happily married. We have 3 daughters and 7 wonderful grandchildren. We were stationed in New York and Norfolk, VA. After Ralph was discharged from the Navy we settled in Nashville, Indiana. This is my husband's home town. I do remember some of the names listed. Have a wonderful reunion in August |

22769 Circle Drive Robertsdale, AL 36567 251-928-4033 Spouse: Ann Hayes '60 |
After graduation from Vigor, I was registered to go to Auburn for Electrical Engineering, but lack of jobs that summer and funds told me that would be a mistake for me, so I decided to go in the military. Tommy Hudson, Zack Dowdle and myself joined the Air Force on the "Buddy Plan"...I believe we were "together" for about 4 weeks during basic training....Tommy wound up in Nebraska, Zack in Turkey, and me in Japan...real "togetherness"...After Basic I was sent to Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut for 12 months of Chinese Mandarin Language training. In December of '58 I came home on leave and married my high school sweetheart Ann Hayes (class of '60), sister of Johnny Hayes...Ann and I met at Vigor when she was a sophomore cheerleader and I was a senior troublemaker...I told my buddies that I would marry her the instant I saw her at a pep rally in the auditorium. That was 44 years ago, and she is still my beautiful cheerleader. We went back to New Haven for the 12 months of school, then to Ft. Meade, Maryland for radio telephone training at the National Security Agency for 4 months, then to Yokota Air Force Base, Japan in April of '60. Our daughter Kim was born in July of '60 and Ann and Kim came to Japan when Kim was 3 months old. I was assigned to an Airborne Intercept squadron where I flew as a crew member in RB50 and later RC130 aircraft as a Chinese Intercept operator (Our US Navy counterpart was the P3 Orion aircraft knocked down a couple of years ago and our Navy/Marine crew was held prisoner by the Chinese, if you remember that). We were in Japan for 2 years, then to San Angelo, Texas Goodfellow AFB as an instructor in the Airborne Intercept School. We were in the Air Force for a little over 7 years. I was able to get 3 years college credit in that 7 years and finished my BA in 2 semesters after discharge. Major in Chinese language, minor in Accounting, perfect for keeping books for Chinese laundries. I worked at IP Mobile Mill for a year as an Admin Trainee where I got into computer programming, and have been doing that ever since 1966. We have lived in Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Dallas and back in the Mobile area since 1980. No plans for retirement, self employed contract programmer since 1978 except for a couple of employment years when things got to be slim pickings. Our son Jerry Jr. was born in June, 1967. Kim is married with 2 boys (Caleb 18, and Jordan 15), lives in Lake Forest and Jerry (almost married once), lives in new Orleans. Most of my work involves travel to client sites, so we (mostly me) have been in quite a few locations and situations. We look forward to the reunion. |

1234 Deborah Dr. SE Huntsville, AL 35801 Spouse: Col. T. L. Milford Note: Tom died 2/15/09 |
After graduating from Vigor, I attended the University of Southern Mississippi. I met Tom there and we married in 1960. I graduated in 1962 and joined Tom in Malibu, California, his first assignment after his commission in the Army. We spent 30 great years moving all over the world and having our family along the way. I've made a career of being a (mostly) stay-at-home mom with heavy community volunteer commitments. Tom retired from the Army in 1991 and we've been in Huntsville since then. He is retiring (again) this month from an Engineering Services company and this time vows to stick to it! We are looking forward to lots of travel, time on the water and a slower pace. We have two sons and a daughter, all married to wonderful spouses. We're also the proud grandparents of four. We still have family in Mobile so we try to visit at least once a month. I'm looking forward to this reunion - I always seemed to be living out of the country for the others! |

I served with the 57 Air Division, Strategic Air Command (SAC) at Westover AFB in Mass , 4683d Air Defense Wing (ADC) at Thule Greenland (The North Pole) and Kessler Technical Training Center (ATC) at Kessler AFB Mississippi. I met my wife Marilyn while still in the Air Force and June 1963, eight months after I was discharged, we were married. In November of 1963 I went to work for Scott Paper CO., now known as Kimberly-Clark, and worked in the Pulp Laboratory as a Lab Technician and instructor. While employed at Scott , I was fortunate to attend college for two years but due to health problems I had to drop out after my second year. I retired after 36 years in October 1999 at the age of 60. Marilyn and I have three sons and two grandchildren. Shawn age 38 has a degree in management. Christopher age 34 is a police detective for the Prichard Police Dept and Jason age 31 is a Police Officer for the Monroeville Ala Police Dept but has been hired as a Police Officer in Montgomery Ala. and will transfer in March. All of my sons are accomplished musicians (piano, trumpet and guitar). In 1998 I underwent surgery to save my eyesight but due to complications from diabetes I have lost part of my vision in my left eye and I am a survivor of open heart surgery (4 by-passes) in July of 2000 but thanks to God I am fully recovered. Marilyn and I walk 4 to 6 miles a day and we do a lot of reading and book collecting and I also enjoy working in my woodworking shop. |

Among other interests: old cars, traveling & tent camping. Haven't camped in yrs, though. When I get time. Health: Some have said, "You are what you eat." If so, for me too much couchon du lait & not enough shrimp Creole. Chronic furniture disease: Chest fell into my drawers. Otherwise, health good for a middle-aged old man. Education: After Mother's Sept death, I realized my most important lesson was at SunSch Bethany Bapt, Whistler, at 3 or 4. "Jesus loves me this I know. For the Bible tells me so." List of ones to be honored at reunion saddens me. Perhaps, my name or yours will be added by Aug23rd. May I ask the most important question?: "When the roll is called up yonder, will you be there?" I pray you'll be with me at reunions "In the Sweet By & by". Reservations are made & bill paid by God's Son, Jesus Christ. However, you must reconfirm, personally. I dropped out about midway through my Junior year and joined the navy. Spent 4 years in the navy as an enlisted man. Got to see quite a bit of the world, South American cruise, a couple of Mediterranean Cruises and a tour in the North Atlantic. Went to University of Montevallo after the navy and got degree in Chemistry. Worked in industrial chemistry (Calgon Corp) for a couple of years then went to New York City. Worked for the New York State Racing Commission, analyzing horse urine briefly, then went to work for a major hospital in the city as a Lab Tech in the Clinical Lab.. Wound up a couple of years later as lab manager for about 7 years. Next job was a bartender on the upper east side of Manhattan and later restaurant manager in the same neighborhood. When restaurant closed I became a wine and liquor salesman for about a year. Then I moved to Houston as district manager of three retail businesses. We sold out after a couple of years. Then I got into the Telecommunication business as a field service engineer building microwave radio stations all over the U.S.. Did that about 12 years. During that time I became interested in Humanism and got involved in the national movement. Now I am President of my local American Humanist Association chapter here in Houston. I have been ordained as a Humanist Minister and am a member the National Board of directors of the Humanist Institute. I publish a column in my local Humanist Alliance newsletter, speak at various Unitarian churches and Humanist functions, and periodically perform weddings for those who do not want a traditional religious ceremony. I am also a practicing Zen Buddhist. Am currently unmarried and do not have any children. |

After Vigor, I married Bernard Wolfe. We have been married 45 years and lived on Signal Mountain, Tennessee for over 30 years. We have been active in our community, with our church and civic organizations. Bernard has served on our Town Council and was Mayor for 8 years. I worked in Real Estate, and was one of the original owners of Chattanooga Realty Inc. After 18 years with Pitney-Bowes Inc. Bernard opened his own business. After much soul searching about working with my husband every day I joined him in his endeavor. We do small business accounting and counseling. I am most proud of my three children, who have grown into responsible adults. Our daughter, Kim, lives in Kansas City, MO with her husband and three children. Our oldest son, Tony, lives in Columbia, Tennessee with his wife and 6, yes I said 6 children. Our youngest son, Robert, lives here on Signal Mountain, with his wife and 4 children, much to our delight. With our 13 grandchildren it is a mad house at Christmas, but it is fun. We all get together in the summer at our beach house at Dauphin Island, AL. We thoroughly enjoy all of them. It is such a rewarding experience to see your family grow. I am looking forward to the reunion and renewing old friendships. Patricia died on 11/13/09 |

1111 Woodcliff Dr. Baton Rouge, LA 70815 504-275-5277 Spouse: Donna |
Shortly after graduating Vigor, I enlisted in the USAF, serving with the Strategic Air Command (SAC), 98th Bomb Wing, in Lincoln, NE. (Talk about cold!). Following an honorable discharge, I returned home and worked in sales for Hudson Real Estate and Insurance, my dad’s agency in Prichard for almost four years. I married in 1964 but divorced within three years. I relocated to Montgomery, AL in 1966 to work as a Special Agent for an insurance company, Southern Guaranty, where I met my future wife, Donna Crawford. I enrolled in the College of Insurance, University of Georgia @ Athens, but accepted a transfer with my employer to Jackson, MS, where we lived for seven years. Donna and I were married in 1968. After resigning from the insurance company, I affiliated with an insurance agency in Jackson. Shortly afterwards, I was awarded a scholarship to Oberlin College, School of Insurance. After finishing school, I returned to Jackson, but resigned to open my own insurance agency when an unexpected opportunity arose. We relocated to Baton Rouge, LA, where I operated my insurance agency for over twelve years. I have been quite active in the Professional Insurance Agents Association (PIA), serving as local and state president, as well as at the national level, where I chaired the National Flood Insurance Committee. I later sold my agency and am now working as an insurance consultant for Norris Insurance Consultants, Inc., in Baton Rouge. We specialize in property & casualty insurance for public entities, such as school boards, levee boards, water districts and parish police juries (that’s Louisiana talk for county commissioners). Some travel is involved, but it provides an opportunity for me to experience the different cultures in Louisiana, not to mention our great food. I have dined from coast to coast and we absolutely have the best food, particularly seafood. I enjoy my work today, more than ever and I have no immediate plans to retire. We are blessed with a wonderful daughter and son; Michelle, a teacher and Tim, who is an industrial sales specialist and travels the gulf coast, three beautiful granddaughters, Haley, Blair and Mary Grace, who bring great joy to Donna and me (Aren’t grandchildren great?) Donna, by the way, is on the administrative staff of the Baton Rouge office of UBS Paine Webber. I enjoy sailing, (It’s all good, but the Caribbean is the best), Civil and WW II history, (I like watching the History Channel), classic/collector cars, (Ever look at a 1941 Cadillac 60 Special, a 1956 Packard Patrician or a Lincoln Continental Mark II?), an occasional Cuban, (When I can find one) and watching the surf or sunset on a beautiful beach. Beaches by the way, I think represent some of the Lord’s best work, (St. John, US Virgins, is my all time favorite). I also enjoy listening to good blues music. |

Went to Southern Miss. U after Vigor and had a good time; didn't accomplish much. Worked for 6 years at International Paper Co. and then headed for Texas. Graduated from Texas Tech Univ. in 1970 with a BS in Chemical Engineering. Ann and I had Eddie and Robin and then I went to work for Dow Chemical Co. in Freeport, Texas. Lynda and I married in 1974 and later became the parents of Sarah and Matthew. We now have 4 grandchildren and we all still live in Texas. I spent 25 years with Dow and retired in 1995, went to work the next day for another company in southeast Kansas and lived in Joplin, Mo. 4 years. Left there and went to work for BF Goodrich in Cleveland, Ohio for a couple of years and now am retired / self-employed/ consulting. I managed to make it to the Vice President and Director of Manufacturing levels in the companies I served, but never really wanted to go any higher. (Good thing, 'cause I never was asked to). Having fun now in semi retirement, living in our lake house and building what I hope will be our last full sized home. I enjoy fishing out of my back door, exercising to stay fit, going places with Lynda, visiting all the kids (especially watching Kylie play softball), and playing a little golf. I guess I like to work, too, 'cause I'm still doing it. |

Most folks probably won't remember me since I was sort of a "wall flower". After graduating from Vigor I spent two years in the Navy. I returned home to Mobile to find that my future was very limited, having little education and even fewer skills. Academic performance at Vigor didn't help much either, very few of you will remember that I had to paint Mr. White's classroom to get a "few points" to pass Problems of Democracy, allowing me to graduate. Not a really great start, but fortunately with the help of lots of folks, especially my wife of 40 years, Donna, I have had some success. I earned a Bachelors degree from Faulkner University in Montgomery and another BS degree from Auburn. Later I earned a Master's degree from Troy State and a Ph.D. from the University of Alabama. Spent 27 years as a Navy reserve officer and was in private business for about ten years (Auto Parts) but most of my career has been in education. I have taught in the business programs at Florida State, Faulkner University, and Troy State University. I have also served as a university administrator, including Vice President of Academics at Faulkner University. Currently serve as Southeast Regional Director for Troy State as well as teach in the Graduate Business Program. Responsible for ten teaching sites in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Germany. Have three wonderful kids, all very successful and two grand kids. |

Only a few months after graduation I married Rankin Doggett (class of 56). Of course my interests were not in furthering my education but GETTING MARRIED. This September will be 45 years for us too. We traveled a little but got back to Saraland where our children went to school and high school. We have lived in the same house for over 35 years. We thought about moving but just have too much junk. We have 5 children, (all in 8 years) from 43 years old to 35. We also have 8 grandchildren, one step granddaughter and one step great granddaughter. Everyone lived close by until a couple of years ago. Rankin is already retired and I am soon on my way. I still have an office and do income tax and a little bookkeeping. We enjoy visiting with our grandchildren and our sometime babysitting. My oldest, Mimi, travels a great deal with her appraisal job, she has Matthew who is in Kuwait. I hope he will be home mid-December. Second is Angie, who is a new mom, retired and stays home in B'ham. She loves taking care of Dylan (16 months old) and his dad. Third is Susan, she just remarried and is in Jackson, Ms. Her son Robert (20) works in SC. Robbie is in Orange Beach and does charter fishing. He has Cyrus (13) and his wife Kristy. Our youngest Tommy has four from 17 months to 9 yrs. They are all still close and enjoy getting together. It will be great to see so many friends from yesteryear. |

Worked at Brookley AFB after graduation as Secretary to Deputy Base Commander. Base closure transferred me to Cape Canaveral to work at Patrick AFB and later NASA in the unmanned space program. Met my husband James Michner (his family dropped the middle "e" but no kin to the author) in 1965 and we married six months later. Jim worked in the space industry too. He tracked the missiles down country. We later moved to Casselberry (suburb of Orlando) where we have lived (off and on) for 35 years. We have two children, Suzette and Scott, but no grandchildren (yet). When Jim worked for Raytheon Company we lived in Iran (until the Shah left) and we were evacuated back to the states. Fortunately that was before the hostage crisis over there. We later lived in Sierra Vista AZ for a year and then back to Casselberry. I was a homemaker until my kids graduated and I now work for a Nextel Dealer here in Orlando as an office manager. Jim now works for a small company as a calibration manager for helium leak standards (Does anyone know what that means?) We feel very blessed with good health, good friends and, most of all, a loving family. My Mother still lives in Chickasaw and my sister and family live in Saraland. God Bless America! |

Robinson,
James W.
41 Birch Avenue Shalimar, Florida 32579 1-850-651-1228 Spouse: Mary Lee Vigor' 57 |
After Vigor,
I attended Auburn and received a BS in Aerospace Engineering in 1963.
Married Ms. Mary Lee Pittman (Class of 1957), and we will celebrate our
40th in May. I went to work for the Air Force as an engineer
immediately after graduation. Shortly thereafter, we had a son, Lee,
and I worked on Aircraft such as the F-4, F-105s and B-66, and served as
the chief engineer for the Thunderbirds. Brookley AFB closed and
I transferred to the Navy. I spent several years repairing battle-damaged
aircraft coming out of the Vietnam conflict for the F-8s and A-6s, and
worked as the chief engineer for the Blue Angles. In 1967, I transferred
to the Air Force Armament Laboratory at Eglin AFB, Florida. In 1968,
we had our daughter, Cindy, (“a boy for me a girl for you,”
or something like that). I became a busy Father doing the typical
things that most dads and moms do everywhere. I coached little league,
was a scoutmaster, taught Sunday school, and a chaperone for my kid’s band.
These were the best years of my life, my son had the highest batting average
in the league, which was a proud moment for me and my daughter was a majorette,
excuse the proud father. The Air Force was good about educating me
and I took full advantage of it. My extended education with the Air Force
included: A Masters degree in Applied Mathematics from the University
of West Florida, a Masters in Science of Management from Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT), and a Masters degree from the Defense Systems
Management School for Department of Defense Senior Executives, and an MIT
Sloan Fellow. What a deal, make a salary and have all my schooling
paid for and travel extensively in Asia and Europe. My work with the Air
Force involved the development of new weapons. I served 18 years in the
Air Force Armament Laboratory working as Chief of the Structural Dynamics
Branch, 4 years in Test and Evaluation as the Technical Advisor for Aircraft
Stores Compatibility, and 16 years as the Executive Technical Director
to the Air Force SEEK EAGLE Office. Concurrently with my work for
the Air Force I was assigned to the NATO delegation on the Air Armament
Working Group. Mary Lee went on many of the trips with me,
and we got to see a lot of Europe since I was based out of Brussels.
Some of the more interesting things that I worked on were: On a team
of 11 engineers and scientist who designed and developed the first smart
weapons; Structural design lead for the Fuel Air Explosive weapon now referred
to as the thermobaric bomb; Served 2 years as program manager to the Air
Force’s Special Operations Command for Intelligence gathering and applications;
Selected on special assignment to the Greek Hellenic Air Force teaching
weapons integration to the Greek pilots and engineers along with tactics,
techniques, and mission battle planning.
I retired from the Air Force as a civilian engineer in 1996, and have been working ever since as a consultant engineer for a small company called Avionics Test and Evaluation Corporation in support of the Air Force SEEK EAGLE Office at Eglin AFB, Florida. Our primary work is the certification of conventional and nuclear weapons on aircraft. In 1995, I received the Outstanding Auburn Engineer of the year (1995) for engineering contributions in the private sector primarily for design and development of the smart weapons program, which was a proud moment in my life to be called back to that hell hole of study and sweat. For one moment it made it all worth it. Along the way I managed to have a heart attack, a stroke, and like most everyone else I fight the over-weight battle. As a hobby, I am an active member of the North West Florida Symphony Orchestra since 1971 (violin and viola), an avid fly fisherman and an active study of Christian History. |

I
began my public school education at C.F. Vigor School in 1946 when I entered
the first grade. I continued at Vigor until I finished the 3rd grade.
At that time Vigor became a high school. I returned to Vigor in 1955
(9th grade) and graduated in 1958. I have had a wonderful career
and have been blessed in being allowed to meet the goals that I set.
I graduated from Mobile Infirmary School of Nursing in 1961 and became
a registered nurse in May of that year. I received my BS in Nursing
in 1963 and my MS in nursing in 1965 at the University of Alabama.
Added to my education is a license as a Water Operator II License with
the State of Alabama and a Jewelry Designer certificate from Bishop State
Community College. I am currently enrolled in Horology at Bishop
State. I have taught in an academic setting (Louisiana State University
School of Medicine and the University of Mobile School of Nursing), and
am currently adjunct faculty at the University of South Alabama College
of Nursing, University of Mobile School of Nursing and Springhill College
School of Nursing. I taught in a diploma nursing setting, and also
taught paraprofessional nursing in a variety of settings. I have been a
staff nurse, a charge nurse, a evening supervisor for a hospital and was
one of 9 nurses who opened the first coronary care unit at Mobile Infirmary.
My last career move was to Mobile County Health Department and I was the
nursing director for 31 years. I am now working part-time at the
Health Department as the nursing director emeritus. I have received many awards and recognitions. I will mention only a few--the Meritorious Service Award/Hurricane Betsy by the mayor of New Orleans, the prestigious Wolf Award by the Alabama Public Health Association and the Number One Gayfers Career Award. I have received a number of honorary awards but I will mention only the Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society for Nurses. I have served on many boards and councils and strived throughout my professional career to give back to my community--Mobile Joint Legislative Council (President, Vice President, Program Chairman), Mobile Area High Blood Pressure Council (President, Secretary), Prichard Housing Authority (Member, Chairman), Kushla Water District (Chairman and Vice Chairman), Mobile County Nurses' Society President, Vice President, Program Chairman), Alabama District III Nursing Association (President, Vice President, Program Chairman), Alabama Family Planning Council and several state appointments made by the governor. |

I was married by the time I graduated from Vigor and had my first daughter the following year. The marriage was a disaster that ended in divorce. But I was blessed with a beautiful baby daughter so it wasn't a complete failure. One year after my divorce I married Donald Cave who has been a wonderful Husband, Father and provider for the family we have had together. Donnie worked for 35 years for Scott Paper Company as an E and I (Electrical and Instrument) Technician. He took an early retirement in 1994. He did some teaching after he retired but now he just enjoys being at home and fishing with the Grand kids. We have six daughters that we are so very proud of. Our first daughter Cindy, who Donnie adopted when she was two years old, works for the City of Satsuma as their Librarian. She has two children, a 19 year old son who is in College and 14 year old daughter. Our second daughter Kathy is a homemaker. She has an 18 year old son, 16 year old son and 14 year old daughter. Our third daughter Donna is an RN at USA Medical Center. She has an 11 year old daughter and 7 year old son. Our fourth daughter Regina is a school teacher. She has a 16 year old daughter, 10 year old son, 8 year old daughter and 5 year old daughter. Our fifth daughter Lori is a Travel Agent with Springdale Travel and has a four month old daughter named Mary Helen. Our baby daughter Tiphani has been Youth Director for our Church and homemaker. She has a 12 year old daughter, 6 year old son and 5 year old daughter. As you can see our six daughters have blessed us with 14.2 Grandchildren.. And they are GRAND! All of our children and grandchildren live near. Holidays at our home are something to see. I'm still a stay at home Mom. I'll never retire from that. In July three of my daughters and I went to New York and visited "Ground Zero." It was a sad and sobering sight. We hope to go back soon. I am very active in Saraland United Methodist Church. I work with a Jr. High Puppet Ministry called the G.C.'s (God Controlled). They are a blessing to me. Visit our website. http://www.saralandumc.org/ About three years ago I started an e-mail prayer chain for our church. I have about 70 Prayer Partners that I send prayer requests to. I married Charles Jackson "Jack" Granade, Jr. in 1970 (probably the oldest classmate to marry for the first time). Jack's father & Mrs. Dorothy Granade, my 10th grade homeroom teacher were 1st cousins. I met my husband here in Mobile in 1969 when he moved to Mobile to work for the Corps of Engineers after completing his Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alabama. I graduated with a BFA from Mississippi University for Women, BS from University of South Alabama, and did graduate work at the University of Ala. & USA. I taught middle and high school for 11 years before taking a maternity leave in 1973 (I'm still on it 28 years later). We have 2 children, Charlie (28, single) is a singles minister for Dayspring Baptist Church ( he received his Masters from University of Texas, Austin & was a medical sales rep. in Chicago until he surrendered to the ministry this past Feb.). Our daughter, Kayra (25, single) is a third grade teacher in Cobb Co., Ga. She graduated from USA & will begin graduate school this coming January. I have experienced a very rewarding life. As a young single woman, I painted and traveled extensively in Europe & Scandinavia. I was also active in my church and community. In 1968 I was selected as the "Young Career Woman of the Year for Alabama". After the arrival of children, I was content to settle down to being a "plain ole homemaker" and enjoy my family. History & traveling have always been important to our family. We have taken 4 Latin American church mission trips and just this past April, Jack & I took our daughter, Kayra with us to Italy to visit 3 of our favorite cities. My art work now is mostly decorating wedding invitations and my favorite hobby is collecting green depression glass. Arthritis and a few other "old age" diseases seem to be present much of the time. Even though I hurt a lot, I refuse to give in to the pain and keep telling myself it's great to be alive today. Our family life has always been centered around the Lord and our church. |

After Vigor went to Southern, MS in Hattiesburg on a partial baseball scholarship. After almost 2 years of fun and wasting my parents money, I walked away to come home get a job and get married. Attended South Alabama and Spring Hill at night while working at Scott Paper. Met a beautiful girl singing in the choir and the rest is history. Myrtice and I have three great boys and two wonderful grandchildren. The two oldest boys graduated from South AL and the youngest is starting his sophomore year at Southern, MS. We feel we have raised two families as there is 20 years difference between the middle son and the youngest. My wife has done a wonderful job. What a life, got to repeat vacations again, go through school activities, football, PTA's, etc., again. As for me I retired from the mill as manager of inside sales on 9/28/01 at 2:15 PM. (Maybe that's the reason the mill shut down as I was in charge of sales.) I took up golf after playing baseball in the Roy Hobbs league for about 5 years. Getting bored and polishing up my resume to start working again. Major accomplishment is I have never missed a Senior Bowl football game and until this year never bought a lawnmower, (Wow). Seriously, God has certainly blessed us. Most certainly looking forward to seeing everyone again. Ruth and I were married in 1959 while I was a sophomore at Tulane. With my NROTC scholarship, we had to keep the marriage secret until graduation in 1962. After graduation, with a degree in physics, we began our 5-1/2 years in the Marine Corps. I went through Navy flight training in Pensacola, Meridian, MS, and Kingsville, TX. Our first son, Eric, was born when I was in the middle of a 6 month Med cruise aboard the USS Forrestal, flying F-8's (single seat fighters). After returning from the Med cruise, after about 4 months in the U.S., I went to Vietnam as a forward air controller assigned to an infantry battalion near the DMZ. The first half of my 13-month tour was spent walking around on the ground with a pack on my back and a steel helmet on my head. The second half was much better as I joined a squadron in Chu Lai flying A-4's, a single seat attack bomber. After returning to the states in late 1967, I was hired by Northwest Airlines in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Nobody told me how cold it would be! The high for the first week of January 1968 was minus 16 degrees. I had a good career with Northwest, flying as a captain the last 15 of my 32 years there. I was a captain on the Boeing 727, 757, the Douglas DC-10, the Boeing 747, and lastly the 747-400. I was a captain instructor the last 2-1/2 years on the B747-400. I retired (mandatory at age 60) in August 2000. Ruth and I are enjoying retirement, staying busy with church, family, and sailing. We thank God for His Grace and Mercy. |

Rick and I sold our house on 11-19-05 and have moved to our property here in Westville, which is about 90 miles east of our house in Milton. We are living in our 36' 5th wheel travel trailer and loving it...such a great feeling not having that big house to worry with and being able to go wherever we want. We'll probably get tired of this in a year or so and build a very small cabin...no more big house and all that cleaning for me. Oh, we are in the woods and our street is a dirt road very close to the Chotawhatchee River....It's great. |

Thirty-five
years ago my husband, Dan, selected Washington, D. C., as our honeymoon
destination. Ironically, 17 years ago we moved from Mobile to within 19 miles
of the U. S. Capitol. I like the energy & excitement of this area,
the four different seasons, even the snow. Dan hates the traffic, but as
owner of his business, is able to select his hours, making his commute
tolerable. My various career moves have taken me from Merchants National Bank (11 years there) to the University of Alabama Alumni Office, to a non-profit educational organization in D. C. My final job, as a lobbyist on Capitol Hill, was the most unusual. How exciting to interact with senators, congressmen and dignitaries normally only seen on television or the cover of magazines! Our two daughters, Susan, 31, and Sandra, 27, have thrived in this fast-paced area, and love the many activities available, i.e., canoeing on the Potomac in view of national monuments, acting in productions at the National Theater, etc. Susan, (Mrs. Brett Thompson since 2002) is a Chiropractor, and Sandra is a Speech Language Pathologist. We have no grandchildren, yet, only grand dogs! Our family enjoys traveling, especially cruises. Our 35th anniversary in March was celebrated with a cruise to Hawaii; Dan and I cruised the Yangtze River in China and saw the world's largest hydroelectric dam, and walked the Great Wall. Sandra returned last month from Japan, and Susan visited Nepal; both have backpacked through Europe. "Gotta do it while we are still able" is Dan's mantra. As far as Vigor "teacher" memories, my most vivid one is of the teacher who was allergic to the bites of yellow jacket bees. I can still see her ankles swell after an attack. Think she missed some days due to the swelling one year. Does anyone remember her name? I am looking forward to being with everyone after all these years. Thanks to all you organizers for such a great job. |

Transferred
from McGill to Vigor in my sophomore year. Having grown up in Whistler,
I knew many of the kids at Vigor so I felt at home. The best thing
at Vigor (having attended an all boys school, McGill) was the "GIRLS!!"
Was I ever in heaven...They were so beautiful... Stupidly I quit
Vigor after my junior year and joined the Coast Guard, which I retired
from. After retirement, I went to work as Assistant Manager of First Federal,
Prichard Branch. Tommy Hudson should remember that. After realizing
bank work was a great job but the pay was lousy, I went back to what I
learned in the Coast Guard...Cooking. I was the Executive Chef and
Manager of Delta Air Lines in-flight food program out of Atlanta. We served
real food back then. Later I joined ARA and started the Meals-On-Wheels
and Summer Lunch Program for the Government. Alabama was the test state.
I did some teaching of food service for the State of Alabama and then,
due to my health, I retired in 1985. Now genealogy is my passion.
I work on the net and library doing research. Married 43 years this November
to the same sweet gal I met in 59, Annette Reynolds from Greenville, AL.
She was a farm girl...Now, she can cook! We have 3 grown children,
5 grand kids, 1 beautiful, redheaded great-granddaughter who has completely
stolen great-grandpoppa's heart. We all live happily right here in good
ole Mobile, AL. God is good. All is well. Blessings, Bob Note: Robert died on 8/23/04 |

I
married my husband, Charles Daniel Batton, in October of '58. We had known
each other and dated a long time. He also went to Vigor. He had been in
the US Navy for two years at that time. He whisk me off to Hawaii
and we stayed for 3 more years. We were stationed at Pearl Harbor and Fallon,
Nevada. Chuck went to Vietnam twice, one time for a year. We were stationed
at North Island across the bay from San Diego. We lived in Imperial
Beach, California and Bremerton, Washington. When we decided to leave the
Navy, we raised our two girls in Pensacola. We then went to Houston for
twenty years. We will have been married 45 years this October. Where have
the years gone? We now live in Warrenton. This is in Northern Virginia
and it is so beautiful here. But we return home to the Mobile area
very often. We have a daughter, Charlene in Mobile with 3 wonderful children
and a daughter Deanna lives here in Warrenton with 5 more wonderful children.
Every one of them are our favorites. The oldest granddaughter will be a
junior at Elon University in North Carolina in the fall. My hobbies are grandchildren, church, baking, sewing, and crochet. This will be my first reunion since graduation. I am very excited about coming to this one. It sounds like it will be great. See you all in August. |

After
graduation from Vigor, I attended William Carey College for two years.
While working for a steamship agent, I received an offer to work for Congressman
Jack Edwards (R, Ala.) and two weeks later flew to Washington, D.C., a city
I had only seen in pictures, and to work for a man I had never met.
While at a Presbyterian Thanksgiving Dinner for young adults in a Victorian
mansion on the Potomac River in 1970, I met Ed Besch, Captain, USMC (Ret.),
USNA'60 and the rest is history. He proposed on our first date, and
we were married on 13 February 1971. Three months later, we were
in Hong Kong. I was safe-havened there and worked at the American
Consulate while Ed went to Saigon, South Viet Nam, to serve at the American
Embassy. I soon followed as the first non-working CIA wife to go
in-country and found a job as secretary to the Chief of Air (Air America).
When our tour was over almost three years later, we took six weeks to return
stateside the long way home....Bangkok, New Delhi, Tehran, Istanbul, Rome,
Paris, Amsterdam, London, and back to Washington, D.C. Our two beautiful daughters were born in Charlottesville, VA. Christina has a BFA from USA, is married and an Exhibit Catering Sales Manager for Aramark at the New Orleans Convention Center. Catherine is a student at USA, majoring in International Studies and is an accomplished equestrian. When Ed retired from the Department of the Army as a senior intelligence analyst, we moved to Mobile. Although my Yankee husband had his heels in the Virginia tarmac, he quickly adjusted and we are both active in historic research and interpretation. He is a volunteer at the Museum of Mobile, and I can be found giving tours at Oakleigh on Tuesday afternoons. |

After
graduation from Vigor, I attended Mississippi Southern College, now Southern
Mississippi University. Shelby Christian and Jean Stevens were my
roommates. Near the end of the school year, the sorority to which I was
pledged, Delta Zeta, went on a house party at Pensacola, where the 2 main
attractions were the beach and U.S. Navy flight-training students. While
in Pensacola, one of my sorority sisters, Beverly Snow, also from Mobile and
engaged to a U.S. Marine cadet, in a roundabout way, introduced me to my
future husband. His name is Roger Crim and he was from Redlands, CA.
We dated throughout the summer, while I began working at Merchants' National
Bank. I kept working and seeing Roger on a more and more regular basis,
and did not return to "Southern”...end of college career. We were married in the spring of 1961 and immediately moved to the west coast, remaining there until 1992. We had 2 sons during this time, Lee, who was born in Coronado, and Mike, born 2 years later in Mobile. Roger was departing on his first Far East cruise. This was just before the start of the Viet Nam war. He returned when Mike was 6 months old. We headed west, rented a home, and I stayed in San Diego as Roger departed again, in less than 6 months, for his 2nd Far East deployment, as a carrier air wing pilot, only the war was in full swing this time. This was a very scary time! I was glued to the TV news and any other source of information available. When I look back on that time, it still scares me, but thank God he returned safely in the spring of '64. In another few years Roger had had enough of the politics in the Navy and resigned. He went to work flying for Pacific Southwest Airlines, PSA. We moved around in the San Diego area for the next 25, or so, years. During that time, I was visited by Shelby, she and her husband were stationed, I believe, at NAS North Island. Many years later, Terrell Smith was in town on business, and we went out together for dinner. So, he met my family. A year or so later, Ed Kotis was in town, and he came to our house for dinner. As you can tell, with few exceptions, I didn't see much of my old classmates. I did attend the first Vigor reunion, and the 2 of us were at the last one. In the meantime, both of our boys graduated from college, Lee from the Pasadena Art Center, College of Design, and Mike from California State Polytechnic College at San Luis Obispo, CA. While at Cal Poly, Mike met Megan Purcell from San Francisco, and finally, after a 9 year courtship, WHEW, married her. They live in Coronado, CA, and thus far have given us 2 grandchildren, Alexa, age 2, and Nolan, 8 months. Mike is a U.S. Customs Federal Officer and serves in the U.S. Navy Reserve as a helicopter pilot. Lee, after graduation, went to work for Knowledge Adventure as a computer animator. The company designs and provides computer educational programs for children. This is where he met our second daughter-in-law, Angela Milton. Angela was previously married and provided us with our first grandchildren, Kyle, now 11, and Zack, now 9, when she and Lee got married. Roger and I are now living in Chattanooga, actually, Signal Mountain, TN. We love everything about this location except for how far it is from our children and grandchildren. Why did we move so far away in the first place you might ask? Roger was able to transfer to Charlotte, NC, because U.S. Airways bought out PSA and closed the San Diego crew base. We moved in January of 1992, and this time, neither of our sons was married. Besides, California had become so crowded and was beginning to become an even more expensive place to live, and we were aware that retirement was not far off. Wake up, wake up, that's it! If this hasn't filled in all the gaps, I'll, hopefully both of us, will be at the reunion where I can regale you with more thrilling and exciting information, at that time. |

I retired from Kimberly Clark, (old Scott Paper Company.) If you have not been informed, the paper mills are almost gone. IP shut down two years ago and K/C had a large shut down in 1999. SAPPI, another part of Scott, shut down in 2001. The two largest paper mills in the world are all but gone. Industry in the area has really been hurt. Fortunately some of us had enough time in so we could retire. Carol and I have two daughters and one granddaughter. Our oldest daughter graduated from Vigor and now is FORTY years old. I am very excited about the upcoming reunion. |

Life after Vigor led me to Hattiesburg, MS and USM. Enjoyed every minute of my college life. Hated to graduate as a matter of fact. Received a Bachelor of Music Education degree in '63. Got married before I finished school and unmarried a couple of years later. Was a band director in Mississippi for a couple of years and moved to Pensacola, FL in '65. Taught school and played professionally for several years until '78. Got married again during this time and unmarried again. Moved to Orlando and worked at Walt Disney World and went back to school and worked my way into the engineering field. Got married for the final time to my wife Jill. Worked as a mechanical designer at Disney in the Ride & Show Engineering Department. In the summer of 2001 Jill had a chance for a great career move so we moved to Richmond, Va. I have been working occasionally as a private contractor doing mechanical design work. For all intents and purposes, I am living as a kept man. My wife works and I do the house stuff. Would love to hear from old classmates. |

I married Bill Pipkin in
December of 1957, (before graduation). We are looking forward to the big 50th
in 2007 if the Lord is willing. We have 3 sons and 1 daughter. We have 4
GRANDsons and 2 GRANDdaughters and 1 GREAT GRANDson. This summer was a memorable
time , our oldest granddaughter graduated from Auburn and the oldest grandson
graduated from Fairhope High School, where he was quarterback for the
football team. All the family live in Fairhope EXCEPT the youngest son who just
moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, accepting employment as Engineering Project
Manager for Bush Beans. He received his Chemical Engineering Degree from the
UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA. With the empty nest we started shopping for a motorhome.
We bought a new 37ft. very comfortable and loaded, ( I DO NOT like roughing it.)
We especially enjoy going to the Southern Gospel Music Concerts around the
country. We enjoy the impromptu travels, as we never know what, where, or who we
will see when. We have been known to stop at flea markets and antique shops
along the way. We were blessed with a 5 week visit from our 11 year old grandson
from Portland, Oregon this summer. We have also been fortunate to have lots of
time with our 8 and 2 year old grandsons lately. I am tired but I sure have
enjoyed them. I decided a few years back to try oil painting, and discovered I truly have a passion for painting. With very little instructions, some reading and many mistakes I have somehow managed to paint a few "worth keeping" paintings. Most of the good ones I've given to family or friends, My favorite of all is on display in the foyer of South River Park Church Of God in Fairhope. I also did a mural of Noah's Ark for the preschool Sunday school class. When my daughter became the librarian at Fairhope Elementary we completely took everything out and started from nothing. Several ladies and myself painted the entrance to the library with a gorgeous rain forest mural. Since purchasing the motorhome I haven't painted much, but I am beginning to feel the canvas "drawing"??? me. I am a longtime member of Thomas Hospital Auxiliary where I have the opportunity to serve as hostess for the Intensive Care Waiting Room and my many years experience as a retail manager helps when I serve in the Gift Shop. I was diagnosed with cancer in May of 2004. With surgery and 34 treatments I am doing fine according to my July 2005 checkup. Since my youngest son had Hodgkin's , stage 3B, during the last 3 months of his senior year of high school ,taking 8 different chemo drugs bi-weekly for six months and never missed a day of school ,and Bill losing a kidney to cancer in 1998, I felt like mine was a minor aggravation . Our son's oncologist told us that "Andy had "DEVINE INTERVENTION"!!!! We believe it also. We do know God Answers Prayers and He does INTERVENE for each of us every day and most of the time we don't even realize it. GOD IS GOOD!!! I sure hope to hear from some of you and so look forward to seeing you in Oct. |

I joined the Air Force in August of 1958 and spent the next 20 years globetrotting. I did tours of duty in England, Alaska and numerous stateside bases. I was an observer, forecaster as well as an upper air specialist in Air Weather Service. I retired in August of 1978 and went to work for the National Weather Service (doing what I did in the Air Force) spending most of my time in Athens, Georgia. I also worked in Nashville and here in Birmingham, where I retired in January of 1999 and where I am living now. I have been married for nearly 43 years and have 2 sons and 3 grandkids. Both of my boys graduated from the U. of GA with my oldest getting his masters there. He teaches special education in Covington, Georgia but continues to live in Athens. My youngest son is 30 and single and living in Boston, MA where he is working for Debolt Industries. Since I have been retired, I have devoted my entire time to being "retired" which means I go to a lot of bluegrass festivals, fish and generally do nothing. My wife is still working as an administrator at a nearby assisted living home. |

I'll pick up from our last class reunion. Bill and I have made some big changes in our life. With an "empty nest" in 1989, I started quilting. Since then I've made a lot of quilts, from wall hangings to king size. I've won several awards at quilt shows, and occasionally teach a class with the local quilt guild. In 1991, after 23 years in the Seattle-Tacoma area, we moved from Graham, Washington to Magnolia Springs, Alabama. We lived on the Magnolia River and received our mail by boat. In 1995, we moved to Niceville, Florida into our present home, located on Shirk's Bayou. We enjoy sailing our 35' sailboat. We have 2 sons, Eric (37) in Orlando, FL and Kevin (31) in Florence, KY. Eric is an attorney, but is flight instructing at the ComAir Flight Academy, hoping for a job with ComAir soon. Kevin was a ComAir captain, was hired by Northwest Airlines in June 2001, was laid off as a result of 9/11, and is working as an instructor for the new federal airport security screeners. We have one grandchild, Sarina, age 3. "Mama" and "Papa" are always packed, ready for a visit to Kentucky to see her. |

In September of our senior
year I joined the Marine Corp Reserve. Immediately
after leaving high school I entered six months of active training. I planned to go to college thereafter. When I returned home I didn't enter college right away, still
undecided about what I wanted to major in.
I worked at various jobs, none particularly noteworthy.
During Mardi Gras of 1960 I met Martha Mosley (Martie).
She was in her senior year at Vigor at that time.
I may have been undecided about college but there was no indecision
about her. We dated until March
of 1961 and were married. There
was a serious job search going on during the engagement. We
have had more than 42 years of a great marriage.
She has been everything to me, supportive, full of love and with her I
felt myself to be complete for the first time in my life.
We have 3 daughters and 4 grandchildren.
(Are grandchildren great or what?) We were fortunate with our girls.
None ever got into the drug scene.
One has an MA in business; the two others have MBAs, (Accounting and
education). I worked 33 years and
3 months for Stauffer Chemicals, mostly in supervisory positions and most of
my work was confined to manufacturing sulfuric acid.
I have always loved golf, working on my lawn, reading, writing (poems
and short stories), chess and spending time doing anything with Martie.
I retired at 59 and 1/2 years of age. We always to loved to travel and had done so before my
retirement but after retirement we made many trips here in the states and a
week in Europe (Mostly in the Netherlands). |

Upon
graduation I worked in the bookkeeping department at Merchants Bank. While
there, a friend introduced me to Jimmy D. Stevens. Jim and I were married in
1964. Jim, a graduate of Auburn University with a degree in civil engineering,
was working at the Corps of Engineers when we met. All three of our children were born in Mobile. While living in Mobile I was a stay at home mom and a part time student at the University of South Alabama. The birth of our third child convinced me that being a mom was a full time job so I set aside my desire to attend college. In 1977, Jimmy was selected as the Resident Engineer at Fort Rucker, AL, near Enterprise, AL. While living in Enterprise, I attended George Wallace Junior College and completed their cosmetology course and earned a state license. A degree and license that I never used. In 1979, Jim was selected as the Resident Engineer at Redstone in Huntsville, Al. He was later promoted to Area Engineer. This move to Huntsville was a great move for all of our family. I earned my Realtor License and sold real estate for two years. I soon realized that this was not for me. I began attending Calhoun Junior College and graduated from Athens State University with a degree in Early Childhood/ Elementary Education. My life long dream of being a school teacher was finally a reality. For fourteen years I taught middle school math, social studies, and reading. These were fourteen great years. During this time our oldest son, Jim Jr. graduated from Auburn University with degrees in business and mathematics. Our daughter, Cheryl graduated from Athens University with a degree in Elementary Education and from Auburn University with a Masters in Instructional Design. After graduation, Cheryl worked for four years in Heidelberg, Germany . This gave me the opportunity to tour Europe for four summers. I have such great memories of our time together. Upon returning home, she married and currently is a stay at home mom to our two grandchildren. Joshua, a fine young man, will be five Christmas Day. Oh, what a Christmas gift. Emma, named for my mother, turned three July 3rd.As many of you know life gets better when you have grandchildren. John our youngest son graduated from Athens State University with degree in business and computers. We are extremely fortunate that all three of our children reside and work in Huntsville, They all live in the Downtown Historical District. I retired from teaching in January 2000 and Jimmy retired from the Corp of Engineers in February 2002. We purchased a beach house in Gulf Shores and an RV upon retiring. We are dividing our time between Huntsville, Gulf Shores and visiting the fifty states. Joshua and Emma love Grams little house at the Gulf and traveling in the RV. God has truly blessed us I am looking forward to the reunion. Only wish everyone could attend. |

My husband and I own a construction company and hope to retire before we reach the age of one hundred. I received the information regarding the class reunion in August. Sorry I am late in responding, but have been dealing with the death of my Mother and my husband's illness. I do not think I can attend the reunion, although I would like to. I did attend the 30th. I know it would be great to see all my classmates. Of course, I may not remember some of them and they me. The guessing game would be fun though. Perhaps I can make the 50th? |

Margaret Ann 400 Barnes Crossing Road Saltille, MS 38866 662-844-2947 Spouse: Charles Ray Burcham |
There
might not be many of you who remember me! I was painfully shy and quite
while I was in school. My name was misspelled in the annual-there shouldn't
have been the "son" tagged on. That's O.K.-I knew it was
me. Since there wasn't a record of a Margaret Williamson, unless you
knew me, you didn't know that I was in Glee Club, worked on the High Lights
and was inducted into the Quill and Scroll. Also worked backstage for the
Junior and the Senior Plays. A few more of you might recall me now? After graduation from Vigor I attended Livingston State College for three quarters. Ivy Loy Haynes was my roommate. Elaine Kelly and Jolene Ivy lived on the same hall. The following summer I took what was intended to be a temp job with Dr. Edward Barr who was a dermatologist in Mobile. However, in June, 1959, I met Charles Ray Burcham through his brother and sister-in-law who were members of the same church that I had grown up in. He was a good ole' country boy from northeast Mississippi who had just completed his hitch in the Marine Corps. When school time came around again I decided that he was much more interesting! We were married the following March. He drove a bus for Mobile City Lines and I continued my job with Dr. Barr. Our first son , James, was born before our first anniversary. Three years and a day later we welcomed our second son, Dwight. We lived in Prichard and Whistler and back to Prichard until the Spring of '67. We moved to Baldwyn, MS where Charles had grown up. Baldwyn is a very small rural town where everyone is your neighbor and it soon felt like "home" to me. Our third-and last child, David, was born in 1969. A couple of years later we bought a modest house just outside the Tupelo city limits, where we still live. We're about two miles from the birthplace of Elvis! (Remember when he was asked to leave in the middle of his assembly program at Vigor?) In 1973, I had an opportunity to go to work in the business office of a local dental practice. I have worked for several different dentists and have so enjoyed this type of work that I am still doing it today. Haven't decided to retire just yet even though Charles took early retirement about seven years ago. He has worked with a nephew in home construction since he retired-when he wasn't baby sitting our two younger grandsons. Let me tell you about MY grandsons----!!! Charlie and Bryan are James'' sons; ages 17&14: Charlie will graduate high school in May, 04 with honors. Bryan is excited to be in HIGH SCHOOL! Dwight married a lovely girl who had a son by her previous marriage and Will became our third grandson. He's also entering high school this year. Dwight and Donna had two sons together-Wesley who is eight years old and Carson who is six. These guys are the light of Nanny & Papa's lives. James is a bi-vocational Baptist Minister and his sweet wife, Tracy, is a teacher's aide at Oxford, MS city school in Special Ed Kindergarten. They have been married for just over 21 years. Dwight is a Human Resources Specialist and although he and Donna are divorced, she is still our daughter-in-law in our hearts. He has remarried and has a brand new step granddaughter. Finally-a baby girl in the clan! David is in his second year as a full time college student . He waited for 15 years after graduating from high school to decide that He'd rather use his brain than his brawn to earn his living. He's a very talented artist and has discovered that he loved writing for English Comp. He intends to teach art and English and hopefully write and illustrate books. He's still single. Charles Ray has had a bout with pneumonia and some bruised ribs for the past couple of weeks, and most definitely will not be able to attend the reunion with me.. If he continues to improve I still hope to attend. Perhaps let my sister escort me? |

I joined the Marine reserve my junior year of High school and went on active duty after graduation in June. I was on active duty 6 months, then 10 yrs reserve. I worked at Delchamps after active duty for 1-1/2 yrs during which time I married Polly Standland. We had 2 children, Alicia & Cindy, and divorced after 12 years of marriage. I left Delchamps and went to work for Polly's father at Goodbrad Ornamental Iron. Yes, I learned to weld. I left after 1-1/2 years and went to work for Brookley AFB. I trained for 2 years and became a computer operator programmer for 3 more years. This job left me and went to California. I went to work for Diamond Chemicals in 1966 as a cell worker, became an operator then in 1968 became the plant's Storeroom Manager & Buyer. In 1973 I met and married Esther Dean Broussard. She had 2 children, Dan 4 yrs old and Stephenie, 6 yrs old. In 1974 I became a purchasing agent. Then in 1985 Occidental chemical corp. bought my company and I became the Purchasing Manager, which is where I retired after 35 yrs on Nov. 1, 2001. I have 4 grandchildren, Michael, Kelly, Trey and William (Brandt) my namesake; was privileged to watch his birth- This was 1 of the highlights of my life. The other highlights in my life were all related to be able to share my God with other people through my church and missionary work in Guatemala & Mexico. |
