Teen Happenings at BPL!

Did you know that every Thursday Beauregard Parish Library hosts FREE teen programs at our DeRidder branch!? We have five different programs on Thursdays:

  • Anime Club
  • Science Club
  • Teen DIY
  • Game Night
  • Movie Night

Anime Club

Last month for Anime Club we watched Orange! The teens liked it and wanted to watch more because there are some crazy cliffhangers! For February we are watching Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and in March we will watch some hilarious episodes of Ace Attorney. Please know that most anime shows that we watch are for ages 13+.

Science Club

For Science Club we made two-ingredient EDIBLE play dough! It was such a mess but so much fun- check it out on our TikTok page! We will be playing with all sorts of robots this month and next month we’ll be squishing and squashing all sorts of things for satisfying science!

Teen DIY

Our DIY programs are a mash-up of creativity and fun! We all make the same project, but there’s lots of room to put your own twist on it. This month we’re creating unique washer necklaces using metal washers and nail polish. In March, we’ll turn a plain canvas into a colorful masterpiece with just a few scraps of tissue paper. We have Teen DIY programs at our different branches during the month. Check out our DIY schedule here.

Game Night

Game Night is a guaranteed great time – January was Kahoot! trivia which is always a blast and this month we will be playing the game What Do You Meme? We will play Throw Throw Burrito in March!

Movie Night

Movie Night is only done in months with five Thursdays so we’ll be doing Twilight with a Twist in March. We’ll watch Twilight but when certain things happen in the movie, you’ll have to do an action! Oh, and if you’re a movie fan and want to watch a movie monthly with us, we have Cinema Saturday every second Saturday of the month. This is open for all ages. We planned to watch Moana in January but the teens begged for Encanto so we watched that instead (we didn’t talk about Bruno). Since Valentine’s Day is coming up we’ll watch Gnomeo and Juliet – not only will we play it at the DeRidder branch on the 12th, but we’re having a special outdoor showing of it at the Merryville Pavillion! Popcorn and hot chocolate will be served – everyone is welcome and it’s FREE! March’s Cinema Saturday will be Jungle Cruise.

Teen Library Council

If you need volunteer hours for school we also have a Teen Library Council that meets on the last Wednesday of every month. If you’d like to pop in to see what it’s all about, we’d love to have you and if you like it, you can submit an application to officially join. (Note: Colleges LOVE to see you being an active volunteer in your community!) We can’t wait to see you at the library!
