It’s that time again! Tests are done, school is closed, and summer vacation is finally beginning. We can’t wait to see you this summer, and we’re going to have some awesome things for all ages all summer long!

Thank you to everyone who came out to our biggest Summer Reading Kick-Off yet! We had a ton of fun seeing everyone, and we loved having so many people sign up for our Beanstack challenges.
The fun isn’t over yet, though! This week we have more fun Kick-Off events. Come see us in Merryville on Thursday, May 29 from 1pm-3pm, and head out to our West Central Branch on Friday, May 30 from 1pm-3pm for more fun! After, hang around for a special movie event from 3pm-5pm.
Each week we’ll be hosting a variety of events, from grab-n-go kits to story time books and crafts. We’ll also have Makers events not twice a month, but every week during SRP! Check us out after for some great teen events that follow our summer reading theme.
Teens! Thursday, June 5 at 6PM we’ll be having an artist with Masterpiece Bayou come teach us in a guided painting class. Space is limited, so remember to register (registration opens Monday, June 2 at 9AM).
Then the following Friday, June 13, we’ll be visited by an America’s Got Talent alum – Jim the Spoon Man! He’ll be visiting the DeRidder Branch at 11AM, then heading over to the Merryville Community Center for a show at 1:30 PM, and finally heading to West Central for a performance at 4:00 PM.
All branches will be closed on Thursday, June 19, but we’ll open back strong with a Puzzle and Game Swap for all ages! Have any old games you want to trade out? We’ll accept donations Monday through Wednesday, and donators will receive a ticket for early access Friday morning. Don’t have a donation? That’s okay! Friday afternoon and Saturday morning are open to all!
Friday, June 27 at 2PM we’ll be hosting Rebecca from Bangles and Broads as she leads us through a Crushed Glass Art class. It’s not stained glass, but it every bit as beautiful! Space is limited, so be sure to register Tuesday, June 24 at 9AM.
NOCCA, the New Orleans Cultural Center of the Arts, will be partnering us this year to bring Culinary and Digital Editing classes to Beauregard Parish! Monday, July 7 through Friday, July 12 we’ll have Culinary Intensives from 10-12 with DeNae, and Digital Editing with Zoe from 1-3. More news to come, so be sure to keep an eye out for exciting updates!
July 14th we’ll be welcoming back a long-time Beauregard favorite – Geebo! He’ll be starting off the day in DeRidder at 11, then heading out to East Beau at 1:30 and wrapping up in South Beau at 4:00.
Remember to visit us at LSU Ag’s STEM Party at Veteran’s Park on Thursday, July 17 from 9-12.
The Louisiana Department of Energy will be stopping by on Tuesday, July 22 to teach us about Circuits and Electricity! Stop in to see their generator bike, snap circuits, and snap rover!
Finally, we’ll be winding down our summer, but we’re still sure to have a blast at our Summer Reading Wrap-Ups! Keep an eye out for our East Beau Wrap-Up on Wednesday, July 23 from 1-3, then our South Beau Wrap Up in the Rec District Building on Friday, July 25 from 10-12.
The DeRidder Police Department will be visiting us once again on Wednesday, July 30 for Books With The Blue as part of National Night Out.
We’ll be hosting our own Stuff-a-Buddy event on Thursday, July 31 at 3PM. Space is limited, so remember to register! Immediately after, we’ll be showing Minecraft in the Rotary Room, so stop in an enjoy some theater-style popcorn!
