Programs at BPL
The library offers fun, creative, and educational programs for children, teens, and adults.
Many programs are held at the DeRidder branch, but we also offer programs through the month at our rural branch locations.

Weekly Story Time in DeRidder
Ms. Jeanien reads stories and guides kids in making a craft (and a little bit of crazy fun, too!)
This same program will be offered two times a week – on Tuesday and Wednesday at 10:30am – so you won’t miss a story!
Monthly Story Time at Rural Branches
Gather to read stories and do a special kid-friendly craft. Check our calendar for a story time near you!
New: MAKERS for Kids (ages 6-12)
Discover. Experiment. Create.
Join us in DeRidder for a brand new Kids’ program designed for school-aged children ages 6-12! These programs all have a S.T.R.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, Math) theme and work to engage your children and foster an interest in the subjects. In each event, your kids will be making a craft, art, or experiment to take home!
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Monthly Grab-n-Go Activity Kits
Each month we put together a special craft or activity kit, including all the supplies you’ll need to complete the small project. We have kits for children, teens, and adults. They’re provided free of charge, but supplies are limited so be sure to stop by your local library branch at the beginning of each month to pick up your grab-n-go bag! Check our calendar for availability dates.
Teens
Did you know that every Thursday Beauregard Parish Library hosts FREE teen programs at our DeRidder branch!? We have five different programs on Thursdays:
- Anime Club
- Science Club
- Teen DIY
- Game Night
- Movie Night
Anime Club
This is by far our most popular teen program. Past shows include Erased, Death Note, and Hunter X Hunter. Please know that most anime shows that we watch are for ages 13+. You can even dress up if you’d like!
Science Club
Science Club is a variety of STEAM activities to challenge your mind and inspire your creativity. We’ve done things like Marshmallow Engineering, Traveling Rainbows, and even dissected owl pellets.
Teen DIY
Our DIY programs are a mash-up of creativity and fun! We all make the same project, but there’s lots of room to put your own twist on it. Past projects include creating unique washer necklaces with metal washers and nail polish, and turning a plain canvas into a colorful masterpiece with just a few scraps of tissue paper. We have Teen DIY programs at our different branches during the month. Check out our DIY schedule.
Game Night
Game Night is a guaranteed great time – We’ve played Kahoot! trivia (which is always a blast), What Do You Meme? and lots more! This is a great event to be (relatively) loud, get silly, and just de-stress. See dates.
Movie Night
Movie Night is only held in months with five Thursdays. Previous showings include Twilight (with a Twist!) and Maze Runner.
Teen Library Council
If you need volunteer hours for school we also have a Teen Library Council that meets on the last Wednesday of every month. If you’d like to pop in to see what it’s all about, we’d love to have you! If you like it, you can submit an application to officially join. (Note: Colleges LOVE to see you being an active volunteer in your community!) We can’t wait to see you at the library!
(TLC runs from September until May. In May we have a party as a thank you for all of the help we’ve received during the school year.)
