It’s almost that time! Tests are done, school is closed, and summer vacation is finally beginning! We can’t wait to see you this summer, and we’re going to have some awesome things for all ages all summer long!

First, stop by our Summer Reading Kick-Off at our DeRidder branch on May 27th from 10am-12pm. We’ll have a ton of exciting guests and some rad vehicles in our touch-a-truck line-up!
All week after our DeRidder Kick-off (May 28-June 3) we’ll have fun activities in the library and online. Look out for our Kahoot! quizzes on our Facebook page and on our website, or stop into any library branch to complete a scavenger hunt and win a prize! Friday, June 2nd will see us at our West Central branch for a WC Kick-Off! Come out to meet our dino and play some fun games.
Each week we’ll be featuring a new continent, and our events will focus on highlighting their culture, from grab-n-go kits to story time books and crafts. We’ll also have Makers events not twice a month, but every week during SRP! Check us out after for some great teen events that follow our theme.
Look out for a special events! June 10th at 10AM we’ll see Lady Chops* come to beat on some drums and teach us what rhythm is all about! *This event has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
Catch us at the DeRidder Watermelon Festival for some fun and a chance to cool off.
Be sure to stop by our DeRidder branch to check out Barn Hill Preserve on June 30th at 1PM! They’ll teach us about the different creatures they’re bringing and (if you’re lucky) you may get to be one the fifty people to get a picture with the animals!
July has a whole new set of excitements! July 7th at 2PM we’ll be hosting the TMM Project as they bust moves and school us on how to “Say W.H.A.T. Now!”
July 14th we’ll be heading out to our rural branches for an awesome guest – Geebo! A long-time favorite of DeRidder, he’ll be heading out to West Central to put on an unforgettable show at 2PM, then he’ll be venturing over to the Merryville Museum Stage for another awesome show at 4PM.
Finally, we’ll be winding down our summer, but we’re still sure to have a blast at our Summer Reading Wrap-Ups! Keep an eye out for our Merryville Wrap-up dates and times, and – get excited! – because at our South Beau Wrap-Up we’ll be visited by the Houston Museum of Natural Science’s Discovery Dome! It’s sure to be an awesome way to ring in the end of summer, so we hope to see you there!
