For this week's Mango Monday we will present Danish.
Danish is one of the Germanic languages of the larger Indo-European language family, just like English. It is closely related to northern Germanic languages such as Norwegian and Swedish, and it is spoken by 6 million speakers in Denmark, Faroe Islands and Greenland.
For those interested in travel to the places where Danish is spoken, Mango offers this enticement:
Take a dip in the Copenhagen Harbour, visit The Blue Planet, and grab a Rødgrød med fløde for a sweet snack along the way. It’s all a day in the life in the small yet fascinating country of Denmark. Imagine cycling the city streets, riding along the rolling plains until you reach the sandy coastlines along the shore. Unwind with a beer from one of the country’s 200 microbreweries, and strike up a conversation with any of the language’s six-million speakers. The rich culture of Denmark awaits you!
All conversational languages give you different language skills and situations to practice (Making Friends, Shopping, etc). Here is the first lesson about dining out and dietary restrictions you can learn from Unit 4, Chapter 18, called "I can't eat that!"
Danish is available through both Mango Languages and Pronunciator. Each language product has different interfaces, and some will work better for you depending on what you want to get out of your language experience. Don't forget to take advantage of each product's mobile apps for language learning on the go!
Next Monday we will be back with a new language you can teach yourself with resources from your library.
