The Beauregard Parish Library places a strong emphasis on service to preschoolers and their families. Preschool story programs are held at the library and "on the road" at child care centers and other community locations.
School age children are served primarily thorough their school libraries with the public library filling in for summer reading materials, recreational materials and supplimental research materials. Co-operative resource sharing projects between the school and public libraries result in better service to this age group and a significant savings to both agencies.
Summer programming encourages school age youth to continue to develop and practice skills when school is not in session. Library personnel work through the school system to insure that children and parents are aware of the programs and services planned for the summer.
Home Schoolers look to the public library as the main source of research and reading material. Home schooling parents work with the library to provide interesting, informative programs which make visits to the library a routine part of each child's education.
Older youth need information - lots of information - and they need it instantly! Electronic information access and lots of paperbacks keep this group coming back for more.
