HELP with downloading software

While these machines no longer can run Windows apps, this does not mean you can't download and run anything. You just have to look in different places. Since you (DeRidder only) have a persistent home directory any software you download and install in your bin directory will remain when you return. We even went ahead and installed the SDK in case you want to try your hand at downloading a source package. At the time of this writing these machines are running RedHat Linux 5.2 so any software you download which is designed for this platform should run. Since you obviously don't have root access, you will have to install packages into your home directory instead of the system directories. Feel free to ask for assistance. We are also open to suggestions regarding software you would like to see installed for everyone's use.

One warning though; DON'T try installing an eggdrop or similar 'bot on these boxen. We haven't yet blocked out every possible way to pull it off but we are already working in that direction.
