Help With Internet Chat

What is chat? Chat allows you to use the Internet to communicate with other people by entering messages which are shared with others who are in the chat group.

You must have an E-Mail address to chat. This library offers free E-Mail accounts. If you do not have an E-Mail address, go to the computer services desk at DeRidder or to the staff desk at any rural branch and ask to have an E-Mail address setup. (For help learning to use your new email account see BPL's E-Mail page

Choose your chat room They are available all over the Internet. You can find them using any search engine. Most of them also have instructions and help information for the type of chat they offer. Examples:

This library allows chatting on the computers. Most libraries do not allow their public computers to be used for chat.

This library does not support chat. Please don't ask us how to chat. There are several varieties of chat programs and lots of variations in the way chat sites are setup. Due to limited staffing resources staff will not be able to help you chat. If you have problems or questions, you will need to solve them yourself. This page can help you do that.

Think this library should have a really cool page on Chat? Volunteer! We'll provide the web space and link it to this page. You provide the expertise and cool HTML stuff.
