This week the library received a new book that will interest our patrons who are looking for healthier ways to eat.
The Clean 20: 20 Foods, 20 Days, Total Transformation is by Ian K. Smith, M.D. Dr. Smith is well known as a proponent of clean eating, or reducing the harmful processed foods that are so common in most diets. In this latest book he shows the incredible benefits we receive when we eat cleanly. He shows us how we can easily implement this way of eating into our lifestyle without feeling deprived of our favorite foods. He lists 20 clean foods and tells the benefits of each, as well as sharing hints for shopping and storing them properly. Then he details the 20 day plan, with instructions and a daily meal plan. Each day also has a theme and an inspirational “food for thought” section.
There are many easy to follow recipes using these clean foods and ingredients that are readily available. He ends the book with a chapter on exercise, which he stresses is only 20 minutes per day. He gives instructions for some simple exercises that are effective, but also says that any type of body weight exercise is acceptable. He says that the more you change your workout, the more productive you will be. And he says the most important thing about this aspect of the plan is to have fun.
