Just Arrived

The holiday season is in full swing and many people are hosting parties or dinners for family and friends. It can be a struggle to come up with new and exciting food options to satisfy all of your guests. The library can help! We have lots of wonderful party idea books and cookbooks. Check out two of the new volumes of yearly favorites that we received this week.

Southern Living 2017 Annual Recipes. Each year the editors of Southern Living Magazine (also available at the library) publish this book containing all of the recipes found in the year’s issues. There are beautiful color photos of many of the dishes featured. In addition to the recipes, there are hints, sample menus, and additional suggestions to help you find and create delicious meals, snacks, and deserts. It is divided by month, and has both a monthly recipe and article index and a general recipe index.

Taste of Home Annual Recipes 2018. This book, also published yearly, contains over 500 recipes that have been kitchen-tested and come from real family cooks. In addition to recipes found in Taste of Home Magazine (another magazine available at the library), the editors have included dozens of bonus recipes that did not appear in print. There are sections for everyday meals, holiday celebrations, and what they refer to as “classic comebacks”, contemporary twists on all-time favorites. Again, there are color photos of many of the dishes. There are also colorful icons to identify recipes as fast fixes, eat smart, slow cooker, five or fewer ingredients, and freeze it. There is a handy chart of substitutions and equivalents, as well as a glossary of cooking terms.

Let these books, as well as the many other cookbooks in our collection help you create stunning and delicious menus for the holidays and other occasions.
