Sinister Selections

Need a suggestion for something sinister to read or watch from the library this weekend? Maybe you'd like to check out an eye-widening ebook or fiendish audiobook? Try some of our Spooktacular Staff Picks during the month of October to find what some of the other boos and ghouls are enjoying.

We know that not every staff pick will appeal to every patron, but don't worry! If you need help selecting something, we have online tools like Book Browse and our Online Catalog, or you can ask one of our friendly staff members to help search for you.

Cabin in the Woods [DVD]

A weekend getaway with friends seems perfect until an unsettling interaction with a gas station attendant then mysterious occurrences at their cabin lead a group of college students to a familiar but uniquely terrifying experience. If you like your horror meta with a heavy dose of humor, this movie is a solid bet. Just don't bet on the merman.

Since this is our final October pick for the year, we would also like to recommend a sinister cinematic pairing for this film. Grab some popcorn and make it a double feature with Tucker and Dale Vs Evil.

What starts out as a quiet vacation for Tucker and Dale quickly devolves into bloodshed as a group of college students come to unfortunate ends. Do the hearts of serial killers beat under the unassuming exteriors of Tucker and Dale or are they just unwitting victims of darkly hilarious circumstance? Check it out to discover the answer.

If The Cabin in the Woods or Tucker and Dale Vs Evil interests you, please request them on-line or at any branch. We hope you have a frighteningly good time enjoying these seasonal selections!
