Need a suggestion for something to read or watch from the library this weekend? Maybe you'd like to check out an ebook or audiobook? Try some of our Staff Picks, to find what some of the other people in our parish are enjoying.
We know that not every staff pick will appeal to every patron, but not to worry! If you need help selecting something, we have online tools like Book Browse and our Online Catalog, or you can ask one of our friendly staff members to help search for you.
Camper's Guide to Outdoor Cooking by John G. Ragsdale
The tag line of the title helps clarify its content--"Everything from fires to fixin's..."
I wish we'd known these practical ideas back in 2005 when we decided to remain in town during the time of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita--WITHOUT electricity yet WITH an electric stove AND a freezer full of food.
Half the book shows great recipes with about 12 pages dedicated to meal planning and cooking tips. You'll find ingenious heating sources and cooking surfaces. Check out Chapter 5 to see what can be done with a bed of coals, an orange shell, a gallon can and a tree branch!
This author also wrote DUTCH OVEN COOKING.
One may feel led to another section of the Library which covers SURVIVAL SKILLS--Dewey Number 613.69.
Armed with these expert hints, I am now a HAPPY CAMPER eventhough (you guessed it) I don't go camping!!
If Camper's Guide to Outdoor Cooking interests you, feel free to request or check it out. We'll be back next Thursday with a different Staff Pick.
