Check out one of the more interesting books added to the library’s collection this week:

The Swiss Army Knife Book: 63 Outdoor Projects by Felix Immler. Although most of us hope we will never have to survive extreme conditions in exotic locations, many people enjoy the challenge of heading into the wild looking for adventure. Felix Immler is a nature instructor who shows how it is possible to have fun creating a comfortable camp in the wild using only natural materials and a trusty Swiss Army Knife.

Immler discusses the proper techniques for using the knife including safety instructions. He shows how to make everyday items that can be used in all aspects of camping. There are instructions for creating a waterproof roof for your shelter, a bed, table, and even kitchen utensils. He even shows how it is possible to make a version of a refrigerator and an oven.

These projects are suitable for families and teens as well as adult explorers. While not necessarily intended to be a “survival guide”, many of the projects could potentially be life-savers in an emergency. In any case, adventurous campers should be able to have fun and spend quality time enjoying nature with the information found in this fascinating book.
