Almost everyone is familiar with Charlie Brown and his creator, Charles Schulz. We have read the Peanuts comic strip in the newspaper and watched the television specials. This week we received a unique book that should interest fans. Peanuts: A Tribute to Charles M. Schulz is a collection of comic strips drawn by over forty artists to honor Charles Schulz. Each artist created his own interpretation of the characters to show how he or she was influenced by one of the greatest cartoonists ever. Some of the drawings look remarkably like the originals. Others are very different but reveal what the characters meant to the artist and how he or she was inspired by Schulz’s work. There is a section at the end of the book where the artists discuss their experiences with Schultz and his characters.
There is a very good reason that Peanuts has endured for sixty-five years. In addition to this tribute, we have several of the television specials on DVD and several books inspired by the comic strips, so come and enjoy the classic characters that are such a part of our culture.
