National Novel Writing Month is right around the corner, and the Beauregard Parish Library is one of the places where you can Come Write In!
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is an exuberant literary event where people all over the world try to create works of 50,000 words or more during the month of November. Most people write novels, as the name implies, but some writers try poetry, screenplays or other literary forms. Participants connect with other WriMos through www.nanowrimo.org as they keep track of their novel progress and discuss writing topics.
It’s an event perfect for everyone who ever dreamed of telling their stories. Though it might seem like a lot of work, which it is, it is a rewarding experience with limitless possibilities.
To help our area WriMo participants, the library will host three Come Write In nights each open Thursday evening in November at our DeRidder branch from 5:00-7:00. We offer a comfortable place to write, and we plan on having some light snacks to make sure the writers are properly fueled for their creative endeavors. We also have a friendly and helpful staff if you need any last minute assistance in research for your writing.
NaNoWriMo Fun Facts:
The event began in 1999, and in 2005, National Novel Writing Month became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. In 2014 NaNoWriMo had 325,142 participants of all ages from all over the world.
Over 250 NaNoWriMo novels have been traditionally published. They include Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants, Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus, Hugh Howey’s Wool, Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl, Jason Hough’s The Darwin Elevator, and Marissa Meyer’s Cinder.
