During Phase 2, the Beauregard Parish Library is open with limited hours and limited services. Additional details can be seen here. Within those limitations, further closures may become necessary on short notice due to staff shortages. We will update our social media accounts in those instances. Patrons are also welcome to call 337-463-6217 x 0 during the DeRidder branch's open hours for the most recent updates on branch openings. Computer use is limited and by appointment only. Patrons can schedule appointments online here or by calling 337-463-6217 or in-person by asking a library clerk. Appointments are set at 45-minute intervals. No consecutive appointments for 1 person.

We would like to begin a new series called Mango Monday that features our Mango and Pronunciator language learning databases. With these databases, you can learn a new language online for free from the convenience of the nearest internet connected device.
Korean is spoken by 78 million speakers primarily in North Korea, South Korea and China. Knowledge of the language is useful for world travelers, history buffs, military personnel, and people in various professions. Korean culture is coming to the rest of the world through K-Dramas and K-Pop that are enjoyed in more than just Asia. Locally, we have Asian markets in neighboring parishes and Korean churches.
If you grow to love the language, you may one day say: 한 가지 언어는 충분하지 못 해 ("One language is not enough!")
Mango Languages will help you learn to speak the language and function as a tourist in most typical situations (greetings, shopping, eating out, sight seeing, etc.). Mango users with mobile devices can use free Apple or Android apps so they can practice on the go anywhere.
If you would like to study with Pronunciator, that database offers chances to perfect reading and writing as well as listening and speaking. Pronunciator has features for Korean that include early learners (preschool), young learners (elementary school), short courses for travel, healthcare, and a longer main course.
Please note with both of these free databases that you will need to create personal login information to use them. Your personal account allows you to keep track of your own progress no matter which your language of study.
If you are not sure yet that you want to try learning Korean online, you can sample a Korean-language course available in playaway (flash audio) in the library. You can find that in the catalog here.
Stay tuned for next Mango Monday when we will bring to you a different foreign language you can study with either Mango or Pronunciator.
