During Phase 2, the Beauregard Parish Library is open with limited hours and limited services. Additional details can be seen here. Within those limitations, further closures may become necessary on short notice due to staff shortages. We will update our social media accounts in those instances. Patrons are also welcome to call 337-463-6217 x 0 during the DeRidder branch's open hours for the most recent updates on branch openings. Computer use is limited and by appointment only. Patrons can schedule appointments online here or by calling 337-463-6217 or in-person by asking a library clerk. Appointments are set at 45-minute intervals. No consecutive appointments for 1 person.

This week will begin a series of Find It Fridays that concentrate on finding medical resources.
Today we will cover two websites that are designed for, or offer the service, of finding medical professionals. These websites can be very helpful when you need to search for a medical professional or hospital, but don’t know where to start. Also, say you were recently referred to a specialist and you wanted to learn more about him/her, these websites give reviews and background information that could make you feel comfortable before your appointment.
The first website is provided by Medicare.gov. Medicare provides a valuable service both when searching for, and comparing physicians. On the homepage of this website you can chose a “simple” search and enter your zip code as well as the type of physician you are looking for or you can chose the “Additional Search Options” link. Within “Additional Search Options” you have the opportunity to select the preferred gender of the doctor, as well as those that “accept the Medicare-approved amount.” Once you select “search” you will receive a list of results of physicians within a 50 mile radius of the location you entered. If you want to learn more about a medical professional on your results page simply click on their name and relevant information like their eduction, location, and hospital affiliation is given.
The second website that I wanted to highlight today is healthgrades.com. Healthgrades is website with no affiliation to the government that was designed to help people find doctors, dentists, and hospitals. Healthgrades recently re-did the website for easier use and a better layout so if you visited it in the past take another look! From the homepage you can search by doctor name, specialty, condition, or procedure as well as location, making it easier to find a doctor near you. One helpful factor is that the reviews of the doctors are posted as well and you can read what other patients have to say.
